About the NDIS

What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a federal government scheme that provides funding for people living with disabilities. The Scheme is administered by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).

Helping you live independently

If you have a permanent and significant disability, are between the age of 7 and 65 and meet certain other criteria, the NDIS will fund reasonable and necessary supports. Funding is split across three areas:

Core Supports – this includes funding for things like daily living assistance, personal care and assistance with social and community participation.

Capacity Building – this is funding for measures designed to build a person’s independence, skills and ability to take control of their own life.

Capital Supports – this budget is reserved for significantly expensive technology, home or vehicle modifications.

How to apply for NDIS funding

We can help you apply for NDIS funding both over the phone or in writing.

When applying, you must provide the Agency with evidence of your age, your citizenship or permanent residency and your disability – amongst other things.

The Nimble Care team can walk you through the NDIS application process step by step.

Frequently Asked Questions

The NDIS have strict pricing regulations in place to ensure you receive value for money. NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits (which used to be called the NDIS Price Guide) can help you understand the way prices work with the NDIS. You can see the most recent pricing arrangements and limits on the NDIS website here.

To be eligible to receive NDIS funding, you must:

  • have a permanent and significant disability;
  • be an Australian citizen or hold a Permanent or a Special Category visa; and
  • be between 7 and 65 years of age.

You can read more details about NDIS eligibility on the scheme’s website here.

If you are eligible for the NDIS, then you’ll receive annual funding to fund the services and equipment you need from NDIS providers like Nimble Care. You can manage your own funds or ask the NDIA to manage funds for you or have a plan manager manage your funds.

The NDIS is the national scheme to support people with disabilities. Those who take part are called ‘participants’. The NDIA is the agency who implements and manages the scheme.

The NDIS covers and pays for a range of disability support, equipment and services if they are ‘reasonable and necessary’. This can include, for example, mobility equipment, home modifications, education, therapies and community activities.

The NDIS will not cover costs that aren’t related to your disability, living expenses like rent or groceries, or measures that are more appropriate addressed through a different system (such as Medicare, for example).

You can read more about the type of supports funded by the NDIS here.

An NDIS Plan is a plan you must complete when signed up to the scheme. It articulates your goals and the support you’ll require, such as any funding you will receive. Your plan will change as circumstances in your life changes. Everybody who has signed up to the NDIS will develop their own individualised plan.

No. The NDIS is not means tested so it does not take into account your assets of income when determining if you or a loved one are eligible to receive funding.

We certainly do. We help NDIS participants with their accommodation, home modifications, daily living skills and participation in social and community activities.

Yes, you can still receive certain services from us. For example, your current NDIS provider provides you with community participation services and you’d like us to provide you with assistance with daily living (ADL) services. We can provide you with ADL services.

Unfortunately, we are an NDIS provider and to access our services you do need to be an NDIS participant. Speak to us about how you can access the NDIS.

The first step to get started with the NDIS is to give the customer service team at Nimble Care a call. We can introduce you to the NDIS and how it works, while also walking you step-by-step through the application process.
